Kala Chitta Range

Kala Chitta Range is located in Attock District, Punjab, Pakistan. It is located in the northern region of Pakistan. The range spans several provinces, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad Capital Territory. It is a part of the Himalayan orogenic system and stretches from the Pothohar Plateau to the Indus River. A national park and game reserve of the same name are also located in this range, Kala Chitta National Park and Kala Chitta Game Reserve respectively.

The range is known for its rugged and steep terrain and is characterized by narrow valleys and deep gorges. It is home to several rivers, including the Soan River and the Haro River. These rivers have carved deep gorges through the mountains. The Kala Chitta Range also features several natural caves and rock shelters. Humans have used these for shelter and as sites for rock art.

The range is also home to several important geologic features. These include the Dhok Pathan Formation and the Khewra Formation. The Dhok Pathan Formation is composed of sandstone and shale. It is an important source of groundwater in the region. The Khewra Formation is composed of thick deposits of salt and gypsum. It is home to the Khewra Salt Mine. This is the second-largest salt mine in the world.

The range is known for its scenic beauty, diverse flora and fauna, and historical significance. The range has several important archaeological sites. These sites date back to the Stone Age. They include ancient rock shelters, caves, and petroglyphs. These provide insight into the lives and culture of the people who inhabited the area thousands of years ago.

The range is home to a variety of plant and animal species. These include several endangered species, such as the Himalayan snow leopard and the Indus river dolphin. This diversity makes the Kala Chitta Range a popular destination for eco-tourists who wish to explore the natural beauty of Pakistan while also learning about conservation efforts in the region.

The Islamabad Capital Territory Development Authority has developed several tourism sites in the region. These include hiking trails, picnic spots, and camping sites. The area is also easily accessible by road, with several major highways passing through the region.
