Patiser Lake

Patiser Lake

Patiser Lake is located in Lal Suhanra National Park, Bahawalpur District, Punjab, Pakistan. A large part of the park consists of lakes and ponds, one of which is this lake. It is home to a large bird sanctuary, with between 10,000 and 30,000 ducks found each winter here.

It was established during the tenure of President Ayub Khan, under the Ramsar Convention of 1971. This lake was designated as an international wetland. Initially, the Irrigation Department continuously supplied some part of the water of the canal passing through the park to the lake. However, with the passage of time, the lake’s volume decreased, which affected its aquatic ecosystem.

The lake has historically served as a permanent resting place for Siberian migratory birds in the region, but its existence is now under threat.
