Dr. Christian Turner visits the Peshawar Museum
British High Commissioner Dr. Christian Turner visits the Peshawar Museum with his delegation. The delegation termed it as the best museum.
The Director of Archeology and Museum Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr. Abdul Samad gave a full briefing to Christian Turner and his delegation on the historical status of Buddhist sculptures and antiquities kept in the Peshawar Museum and collections of Gandhara art from around the world.
Dr. Abdul Samad, Director of Archeology and Museum Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, presented his book “Emergence of Hinduism in Gandhara” to British High Commissioner Dr. Christian Turner during his visit to Peshawar Museum.
However, the book “Emergence of Hinduism in Gandhara” has not yet been launched. The book launching will take place on October 5, 2020, at 4:30 pm at the Peshawar Museum.
This is also worth mentioning that Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar paid tribute to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in a tweet, retweeting the tweet of an international historian, researcher and photographer William Dalrymple: “The Peshawar Museum is worth a visit, praising the Museum and calling it one of the best museums in South Asia.”
In his tweet, William Dalrymple called the Peshawar Museum the best museum in South Asia and said that it is second to none in the subcontinent. And one of the most beautiful museums with the best display.
Remember that the Peshawar Museum is also called the Buddha Museum. Its original building dates back to the British era, which was once a club of British princes.
In 1907 it was turned into a museum. The Museum has the largest collection of historical artifacts about the life of Buddha in the world. The museum consists of a large hall with galleries on either side. The museum houses artifacts about the ancient Gandhara civilization and statues of Buddha.
