Boyun Valley Ski Resort Project Moves Forward in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is making steady progress on its ambitious Boyun Valley Ski Resort project in Kalam. A high-level meeting chaired by Dr. Abdul Samad, Secretary of Tourism, Culture, Archaeology, and Museums, reviewed the latest developments and future plans for the resort.
Key Stakeholders Join Hands
The meeting brought together senior officials, including Additional Secretary Tourism Muhammad Nawaz and Director General of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) Habibullah Arif. Project consultants Hamza, Tabish Raza, Mohsin Rehman, and Australian expert Alexander Steinlechner joined via Zoom to present updates on the project’s master plan.
A World-Class Ski Resort in Pakistan
According to Dr. Abdul Samad, the Boyun Valley Ski Resort covers 2,900 acres of scenic land, most of it surrounded by dense forests. Out of this, 1,400 acres are reserved for ski slopes. Another 1,500 acres are dedicated to hotels, restaurants, and other recreational facilities.
The ski resort is designed to mirror Malam Jabba, the region’s current hub for skiing, but with modern upgrades. The project aligns with Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s vision of promoting tourism on international standards and creating new opportunities for adventure sports in the province.
Commitment to Environmental Protection
A key highlight of the plan is its strong focus on sustainability. Dr. Samad made it clear that not a single tree will be cut during construction. Consultant Hamza confirmed that the proposed ski slope area is already treeless. Though a small village of huts will be relocated at the consulting firm’s expense.
Safety and Infrastructure Plans
Consultant Tabish Raza emphasized the importance of a comprehensive early warning system to manage weather risks such as heavy rains and flash floods. Dr. Samad assured that various government departments already use such systems. And at the same time, local communities have effective traditional methods to enhance safety.
Discussions also covered essential infrastructure needs, including road access, electricity, and water supply, to ensure the resort’s smooth operation.
International Support and Global Appeal
International consultant Alexander Steinlechner praised the project. While noting that the global ski community would warmly welcome a new facility in Pakistan’s breathtaking northern valleys. The Boyun Valley ski resort has the potential to attract international skiers, adventure enthusiasts. And tourists are eager to experience the natural beauty of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Next Steps
The consultants were directed to prepare a comprehensive updated proposal, which will be reviewed by the Forest Department before being presented to the provincial cabinet for approval.
The project is overseen by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA). It is the provincial body responsible for promoting and managing tourism. The KPCTA continues to highlight Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and adventure tourism opportunities to the world.
