Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Takes Major Steps to Boost Medical Tourism

In line with the tourism vision of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur, the provincial government has announced revolutionary measures to promote medical tourism in the province. A new plan has been outlined to provide urgent visa facilities to foreign patients. Particularly from Central Asian countries, ensuring they face no hurdles in accessing healthcare services in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Help Desk to Be Established at Torkham Border

As part of this initiative, a special help desk will be set up at the Torkham border to facilitate patients entering the province. The desk will guide visitors on medical procedures, documentation, and hospital access, creating a smoother experience for those seeking treatment.

Joint Meeting of Key Departments

A high-level meeting was recently held in the Department of Tourism’s conference room. Chaired by Secretary Health Shahidullah Khan and Secretary Culture, Tourism, Archaeology & Museums Dr. Abdul Samad. Senior officials from both departments attended the session, highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts to strengthen medical tourism in the province.

Growing Opportunities in Medical Tourism

Officials stressed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa receives thousands of patients annually from America, Europe, Central Asia, and particularly Afghanistan. By leveraging these opportunities, the provincial government aims to not only strengthen the local economy. But also provide world-class medical facilities to international patients.

Expansion of Major Hospitals in Peshawar

To meet the growing demand, the government has decided to increase the number of beds in four leading hospitals in Peshawar:

  • Hayatabad Medical Complex

  • Institute of Kidney Diseases

  • Peshawar Institute of Cardiology

  • Burns and Plastic Surgery Center

This expansion will allow hospitals to cater to a higher number of patients with efficiency and care.

Comprehensive Summary for Approval

The Tourism Department will soon prepare a detailed summary in coordination with the Health and Home Departments. Which will be presented to the Chief Minister for approval. Additionally, the provincial government will approach the federal government to facilitate urgent medical visas for foreign patients.

Boosting Pakistan’s Image and Economy

These groundbreaking steps are expected to improve Pakistan’s international image, enhance national prestige, and significantly strengthen the economy of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. By positioning the province as a hub for medical tourism, the government is paving the way for long-term healthcare and tourism growth.
