Punjab Government Launches Rs 590 Million Project to Restore Bhera’s Historical Heritage

Sargodha, Pakistan – Commissioner Sargodha Division, Jahanzeb Awan, along with the Director General of the Archaeology Department, Punjab, chaired a meeting today at the Assistant Commissioner’s Office, Bhera. The meeting focused on the Punjab government’s ambitious project to restore the historical gates of Bhera city and the iconic Sher Shah Suri Mosque. The initiative, valued at Rs 590 million, also includes the revival of the city’s inactive railway station and the establishment of a railway museum in collaboration with Pakistan Railways.

Restoration of Historical Gates and Sher Shah Suri Mosque

Bhera, one of the oldest towns in Punjab, is renowned for its architectural legacy. The upcoming project aims to preserve its cultural landmarks, particularly the ancient city gates and the Sher Shah Suri Mosque, which stand as symbols of the city’s historical significance. Experts believe that the restoration will not only protect the heritage but also promote cultural tourism in Punjab.

Revival of Bhera Railway Station

Another major highlight of the project is the revival of Bhera’s inactive railway station. Plans are underway to restore the building to its original condition. Alongside this, a railway museum will be established to showcase the rich history of Pakistan Railways, making Bhera a potential attraction for heritage tourism.

On-Site Visit by Experts

Following the meeting, Commissioner Jahanzeb Awan and the Director General visited the ancient sites of Bhera, including the historic mosque and the railway station. They were accompanied by a team of archaeological and heritage experts, who reviewed the restoration needs on the ground.

Project Implementation Timeline

According to the Archaeology Department, the project will begin implementation within the coming few weeks. It will be supervised by specialized experts to ensure that the restoration maintains authenticity and historical accuracy.

Officials expressed confidence that this initiative will strengthen efforts to preserve Punjab’s cultural heritage while also boosting tourism in Sargodha Division.
