Pakistan and UK to Collaborate on Cultural Heritage and Tourism Promotion
Peshawar, Pakistan: The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving cultural heritage and promoting cultural tourism through enhanced cooperation with the United Kingdom.
Secretary Tourism and Archaeology, Dr. Abdul Samad, met with British heritage expert Philip Davies to discuss collaborative initiatives aimed at safeguarding historical sites and expanding tourism opportunities across Pakistan.
Philip Davies, a former Director of English Heritage and the founding Chief Executive of the Commonwealth Heritage Forum. He has led several landmark restoration projects across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. Under his leadership, the £12.26 million Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Commonwealth Heritage Skills Training Programme was launched — the largest heritage training initiative in Commonwealth history.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of joint measures to protect historical sites, promote cultural exchange, and strengthen capacity-building programs in the tourism and heritage sectors. They also reaffirmed that Pakistan and the UK will continue to work together to enhance global cooperation for the conservation of shared cultural heritage.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Abdul Samad noted that such collaborations not only safeguard historic treasures but also open new opportunities for cultural tourism in Pakistan, inviting international travelers to explore the country’s rich heritage.
This renewed partnership marks a significant step toward developing sustainable tourism and preserving Pakistan’s ancient landmarks for future generations.
