KP Tourism Alert: Tour Guides and Operators Must Be Registered and Licensed to Operate
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) has issued a strict directive for all tour guides and tour operators working in the scenic tourist destinations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. As per the Tourism Act 2019 and the KP Hospitality and Tourism Sector Regulations 2021, it is now mandatory for all tour operators and guides to be registered and licensed before conducting any tourism-related activities in the province.
According to Umar Khan, Controller of the Tourist Services Wing at KPCTA, no individual or group will be allowed to operate or guide tours in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa without valid registration and an official license. These documents must be carried at all times during the tour.
Starting immediately, inspection teams will be deployed across all tourist hotspots in the province. Any unregistered or unlicensed tour guides or operators will face immediate penalties, including:
-
On-the-spot heavy fines
-
Show cause notices
-
Fines up to Rs. 40,000
-
Possible removal of tourist groups from the site
Tourists are also advised to verify the credentials and licenses of their chosen guides or operators before planning any trip to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This step is essential to ensure a hassle-free experience and promote responsible tourism across the region.
Why This Matters for Tourists and Operators
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is home to many top tourist destinations in Pakistan, including Swat Valley, Malam Jabba, Kumrat Valley, Chitral, Kalash, and Naran–Kaghan.
