Hund Museum

Hund Museum is located in Swabi District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The museum inaugurated in 2002 by the late architect Dr. Ahmed Hassan Dani. It covers an area of 33 kanals. It is located exactly where Alexander the Great’s troops crossed the Indus.

Hund is a small village in Swabi district which has been an important center of Gandhara civilization. It is said that Hund was the last capital of the Gandhara Empire under the Indo rulers. The ancient name of this city was Udabhandapura. Due to its defensive importance, Mughal Emperor Akbar built a fort here. Because Hund remained an important military base during the Mughal period. The ruins of this fort can still be seen today.

Excavation at Hund began in 1996. During the excavations, beautiful houses, coins, ornaments and other items of Indo-Greek civilization discovered. While houses of Kushan, Hindu Shahi period and Muslim period also found.
