Barama Site
Barama Site is an archaeological site located in the Swat District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Situated on the outskirts of Mingora in the Jambil valley. The site has provided valuable insights into the region’s ancient history.
One of the key aspects of research at Barama involves the ceramic sequence found at the site, particularly from the Citadel (Barama) of Mengjieli/Massaga. A considerable amount of ceramic material was exported for study by Domenico Faccenna from the IsMEO headquarters in Saidu.
The 1963 excavation campaign at Barama I further enriched knowledge about the site, although much of the focus in published results has also included nearby locations such as Butkara I, which lies at the junction of the Jambil and Saidu valleys.
