Deosai National Park

Deosai National Park located in Skardu District, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. The area declared as National Park in 1993. Deosai National Park is rich in natural life and beauty. This park is one of the most famous national parks in Pakistan. It is 13,500 feet above sea level and covers 3,000 square kilometres. The park is located between Astor Valley, Khurramang and Skardu.

The presence of Himalayan brown bears adds importance to the park. These rare type of bear are not present anywhere else in the world. The bear sleeps in caves for six months of the year, from November to April. During sleeps their body’s fat melts and provides them energy. When the snow melts, they comes out of its cave. These bear are Pakistan’s largest omnivorous animal (an animal that eats both plants and other animals).

In addition to brown bears, there are marmots, rabbits, Tibetan wolves, red foxes, Himalayan ibex, yaks, Himalayan musk deer, snow leopards, Ladakhi flies and snow leopards. As well as migratory birds including golden eagle, bearded vulture, Eagles and Shikra are notable.

Dewasi National Park is home to thousands of medicinal herbs, a wide variety of wild flowers and wildlife. There are also about 150 species of valuable and rare herbs. Of these, only 10 to 15 are using by locals for various ailments.

This park is one of the most beautiful places in the world on which many books have written.
