Altit

Altit is located in the Hunza District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It is an ancient settlement in Hunza, situated on a broad slope beneath the Ultar peaks. The village is surrounded by lush green fields and orchards and offers sweeping views of the Hunza River. It is considered the oldest part of Hunza and exudes historical charm with its traditional houses, footpaths, and natural setting.

It is a historic village close to Karimabad, home to the Altit Fort, which is believed to be over 900 years old and one of the oldest forts. The village retains its traditional character, with narrow stone alleys and wooden houses.

Nestled below Altit Fort, Altit village is a charming, historic settlement characterized by mud homes, each with square skylights on their roofs. A central water pond, surrounding fields, and a nearby polo ground add to the rural ambiance. The entire village layout reflects traditional living practices and provides a scenic glimpse into Hunza’s past.
