Cherat Chapri Wildlife Park
Cherat Chapri Wildlife Park is located in Nowshera District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. This park is part of a network of protected areas in the region, which includes Manglot and Nizampur Wildlife Parks.
The park serves as a habitat for various wildlife species, including urial, goral, blue bulls, chinkara gazelle, barking deer, and leopards. Bird species such as ring-necked pheasants, black partridges, chakor, and various sparrows also inhabit the area.
Habitat and Flora
The park features broad-leaved evergreen scrub forests, with dominant plant species such as:
Olea ferruginea (Wild Olive), Acacia modesta (Phulai), Vachellia nilotica (Kikar), Zizyphus mauritiana (Ber) , Monotheca buxifolia (Gurgurah) and Dodonaea viscosa (Sanatha).
Additionally, Eucalyptus plantations are present, established by both the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Forest Department and private farmers.
Wildlife
The park provides refuge to various wildlife species, including:
Gray Goral (Naemorhedus goral), Barking Deer (Muntiacus muntjak), Leopard (Panthera pardus), Golden Jackal (Canis aureus), Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) and Wild Boar (Sus scrofa).
These species benefit from the park’s protected status, which helps in conserving their populations and habitats.
Conservation and Connectivity
The park is connected to nearby reserves like the Miagan Tarakai Game Reserve through ecological corridors. These linkages facilitate wildlife movement and genetic exchange, enhancing conservation efforts in the region.
