History

It is said to have come into existence as a result of a severe flood and was named after the Gammon Company. Gammon India Limited was one of the largest civil engineering construction companies in India, established in 1922. The company built a railway bridge at this location, which gave the lake its name.
There are many stories about this lake. Like its depth has not been determined to date, it was formed due to an underground crack, etc. Many people do not consider it a lake at all, but consider it to be the separated sister of Nala Palku. Apart from rainwater, there is no other source of fresh water here. Similarly, due to its level being at sea level, there is no outlet either.
