Ghulam Ali Shah Masjid
Ghulam Ali Shah Masjid also known as Ghulam Ali Shah Maktab is an old mosque located in Hunza District, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. This monument, dating back to the 20th Century CE, stands as a testament to the resilience and faith of the local community.
The Maktab is a small rectangular mosque, with verandas on the eastern and southern sides. Built using a cradle structure, this mosque displays the intricate craftsmanship of the period.
At the beginning of the 20th century AD, the entire village of Gircha was swept away by the severe floods in the Hunza River. Amid this devastation, a local landowner named Ghulam Ali Shah took it upon himself to protect the spiritual center of the community. He moved the mosque from the river bank to its present location, to ensure its preservation for future generations.
One of the most prominent features of the mosque is the elaborate carvings on its door and window frames. The roof has a curved square structure, which adds to the architectural intrigue of the monument. Inside, the mosque has a beautifully carved mihrab/niche, which further enhances its aesthetic appeal.
