Himalaya National Park
Himalaya National Park is located in the Astor District of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Spread over a vast area of 226,300 hectares, the park was officially notified in 2021.
The park is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including some rare and endangered species. It’s unique geographical location and topography make it a haven for a variety of wildlife, including animal, plant and bird species. Some of the notable wildlife species found in the park include snow leopard, Ladakh Euryal, Markhor, blue sheep and brown bear.
The establishment of the Himalayan National Park is part of then Prime Minister Imran Khan’s ‘Protected Areas Initiative’ (PAI). PAI aims to ensure the conservation and protection of Pakistan’s natural assets. The park will act as a natural corridor between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. It will provide unhindered migration and migration sites for wildlife and bird species to adapt to changing weather patterns and environmental conditions.
The park’s unique biodiversity and spectacular scenery make it an ideal destination for wildlife viewing, nature photography, hiking, trekking and camping.
