Javed Manzil
Javed Manzil, also known as the Iqbal Museum, is a monument and museum located in Lahore District, Punjab, Pakistan. The museum is situated on the Allama Iqbal Road. The building was constructed by Muhammad Iqbal, a renowned philosopher and poet, to serve as his residence. The construction was completed in 1935.
Iqbal lived there for three years and passed away in this house. The residence was named “Javed Manzil” after his son, Javid Iqbal. In 1961, the Government of Pakistan announced plans to convert the site into a museum to preserve Iqbal’s belongings and display his famous works and manuscripts. The museum was inaugurated in December 1984.
The museum houses handwritten drafts of Iqbal’s works, photographs, certificates, awards, medals, and educational degrees. It also contains personal belongings of Iqbal, including clothes, diaries, and some old furniture.
The Iqbal Museum is a tribute to the greatest poet and philosopher of the subcontinent. It was listed as a Tentative UNESCO site, protected under the Punjab Antiquities Act of 1975, and declared a Pakistani national monument in 1977.
