Jiwani Coastal Wetland
Jiwani Coastal Wetland is located in Gwadar District, Balochistan, Pakistan. It is a protected area along the Gawater Bay near the delta of the Dasht River . It has been designated as a Ramsar Site , recognizing it as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention
Encompassing approximately 4,600 hectares (46 km²), this wetland was designated as a Ramsar Site of International Importance in 2001. It is part of a larger coastal ecosystem that includes Jiwani Beaches and Dasht Kaur , contributing to the ecological diversity of the region
The eastern coastline features four moderately wide and gently sloping sandy beaches that serve as significant nesting sites for endangered Olive Ridley and Green turtles, making it one of the most important marine turtle nesting areas in Pakistan.
Additionally, the wetland is a haven for avian species, with 112 bird species recorded—79 migratory and 33 resident. Migratory birds utilize this habitat during various seasons, contributing to the region’s ecological diversity.
