Kallar Kahar Museum

Kallar Kahar Museum

Kallar Kahar Museum is located in Chakwal District, Punjab, Pakistan. It was opened to the public in April 2021. This museum is very important for the region because it is a region of Pothohar and the Son Valley, which has a history of thousands of years.

The Salt Range (Koh-e-Namak) region is known as an excellent repository of animal and tree fossils. Ancient Hindu temples built between the 7th and 10th centuries AD are also a feature of the area, from which experts have found many rare items.

The museum has three different galleries:

  1. The first gallery is the Fossils Gallery, where fossils of animals ranging from sheep and goats to elephants found in the Ban Amir Khatun area of Chakwal are on display. Apart from these, ancient trees, snails and other fossils related to geology are also found here.
  2. The second gallery is dedicated to the Indus Valley and Gandhara civilizations. Here you can see red-carved stones, pottery, coins, decorative items, carved wooden doors and statues of Gautam Buddha.
  3. The third gallery houses miscellaneous items including traditional weapons, musical instruments, idols, utensils, jewellery and footwear.
