Mardan Museum

The Mardan Museum is located in Mardan District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is a significant cultural institution that showcases the region’s rich historical and artistic heritage. Established in 1990 under the initiative of Sahibzada Riaz Noor, then Commissioner of Mardan Division.

The museum began in the Town Hall with a collection of 137 antiquities provided by the Peshawar Museum. Additional artifacts were acquired through excavations at sites like Safiabad, Hund, Katlang, Rustam, and Baja, as well as from law enforcement agencies.

In 1992, the museum came under the administrative control of the Provincial Directorate of Archaeology and Museums. The Mardan Museum is situated in the heart of Mardan city, making it accessible to both local and international visitors interested in exploring the Gandhara civilization and the region’s diverse cultural heritage.

The Mardan Museum houses a total of 413 artifacts, including:

Gandharan Sculptures

258 pieces depicting various aspects of Buddha’s life, such as Queen Maya’s dream, the birth of Siddhartha, the Great Departure, the first sermon at Sarnath, and the distribution of relics.

127 coins from different historical periods.

Terracotta Figurines

Animal figurines and other objects.

Household and Agricultural Tools

Items reflecting the daily life and culture of the region.
