Namal Lake

Namal Lake

Namal Lake is located in Mianwali District, Punjab, Pakistan. Located northwest of Uchhali Lake, at the foot of the Namal Valley mountains. It came into existence due to the Namal Dam, which is a major dam in the Mianwali district.

The lake was constructed in 1913 by British engineers as a vital component of the “Salt Lake Wetland Complex,” whose primary purpose was to meet the water needs of Mianwali. Covering an area of twelve hundred acres, it is about twenty feet deep and is fed by rainwater, drains, and springs from the Namal Mountain.

Ducks are also hunted in this lake, along with fish. In addition, like the other lakes of Pothohar, Namal is also a major destination for Siberian migratory birds.
