Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Plant
The Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Plant (NJHP) is a major run-of-the-river hydroelectric project located in Muzaffarabad District, Kashmir, Pakistan. It is situated approximately 42 km south of Muzaffarabad, and about 100 km northwest of Islamabad. The plant uses a diversion dam on the Neelum River and includes a tunnel that is 33 km long, leading to the powerhouse located near the Jhelum River.
It has an installed capacity of 969 MW, making it one of the largest hydropower projects in the country. The Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project was developed with the objective of generating cheap and clean energy. It is estimated to produce about 4.663 billion units of electricity annually.
In addition to the power station, the project includes the construction of a composite dam and other associated infrastructure
