Ondra Hill
Ondra Hill is located in the Hunza District, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. Ondra Hill is a historic and scenic landmark overlooking the beautiful village of Gulmit in Upper Hunza. Atop this hill lie the ancient remnants of Ondra Fort, once a strategic watchpost used to oversee trade routes between South and Central Asia.
In 2020, during the global pandemic lockdowns, the residents of Gulmit undertook a remarkable community effort to build a stone staircase of over 1,500 steps—now considered Pakistan’s highest staircase—leading from the village up to the fort ruins.
This staircase, locally known as Ondra Poi Gah, allows visitors to hike up the hill and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Hunza River, Attabad Lake, Passu Cones, Hussaini Suspension Bridge, and Borith Lake. The trail is a popular choice for trekkers and history enthusiasts alike, combining cultural heritage with awe-inspiring natural beauty.
