Ushu River

Ushu River

The Ushu River is a stream located in the Swat District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It has an elevation of 1,960 meters. The river is situated nearby to the town of Kalam Valley and the village of Boyun.

It flows through the Kalam Bazaar and combines with the Utror River. Then they both make the river Swat. The source of the river Oshu is the glaciers located in the Hindu Kush, which spread to Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan on the Mahodand Lake.

On one side of the river is the Ushu Forest and on the other side is the Ushu Village. There is a chairlift from the Forest to the village, but due to the high altitude, people with phobias of heights are reluctant to ride it.

It is close to several localities, including Karandukai and Jalbanr. There are also several landmarks in the area, such as Desan Mountain, Rustam Sar Mountain, Anshai Mountain, Ushu Sar Ridge, and Godar Dhand Lake.

In addition, it is part of the hydro resources in the region. For instance, the Artistic II Hydropower plant pulls water from the Ushu River. This shows the importance of the river not only for the local ecosystem but also for energy generation in the region.
