Hunza

Hunza

Hunza, once a neighboring princely state separated from Nagar by the swift-flowing Hunza River, shares a deep-rooted history with the region. Also governed by hereditary rulers known as “Thams,” it played a significant role in the power dynamics of this part of the Karakoram.

Like Nagar, Hunza’s economy often relied on levying or raiding caravans that traveled along the ancient trade routes connecting China to South Asia. Modern travelers to Hunza are drawn not just by its dramatic mountain scenery and vibrant apricot orchards but also by the echoes of a regal past that still linger in its forts, traditions, and welcoming communities.
