Khunjerab Pass is located in Hunza District, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. Khunjarab Pass is a high mountain pass in the Karakoram range, which is a military point of interest for Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan, Jammu and Kashmir and China’s Xinjiang region. It is the highest paved border crossing in the world, lying at an elevation of 4693 m or 15397 ft on the Pakistan-China border.

The word Khunjerab is from the Wakhi language, which means “spring of water or falling water”. It is also called the roof of the world. This place holds many records, like being the world’s highest and most scenic border crossing. The ATM located here is the high-altitude ATM in the world. This place is the highest point of the Karakoram Highway and the road passing through here is the highest paved road in the world.

As the northernmost point of the Karakoram Highway, it marks the end of Pakistan and the beginning of China’s Xinjiang region. The journey to Khunjerab offers dramatic high-altitude landscapes and a chance to encounter yaks, marmots, and sometimes snow leopards in their natural habitat.
