Kohat
Kohat, a city surrounded by scenic hills in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, offers visitors a blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue. The city is home to the Handyside Fort, originally built in the 18th century by the Durranis and later reconstructed by the British in 1934 after fierce battles with local tribes. Though now an army headquarters and not open to the public, the fort’s exterior walls still echo with tales of colonial encounters.
Just outside the city, Tanda Dam creates a serene lake where families gather for boating and picnics, making it a popular recreational spot. Kohat also hosts the modern Olas Khan Park and Library, a generous gift by a local elder to encourage reading and community leisure.
